Harmonisation des dynamiques périurbaines pour une Ecologie PArticipative des COmmuneS Sam Notaire, Ndiareme Limamoulaye, Whakhinane Lanzat Nimzatt et Yeumbeul Nord – Projet ECOPASThe Global Objective is to engage the citizens of the Dakar region in the governance of the environment and in inclusive and sustainable growth. ECOPAS aims to strengthen and reconcile all ecological efforts in the suburbs of Sam Notaire, Ndiareme Limamoulaye, Whakhinane Lanzat Nimzatt and Yeumbeul Nord.A large migration from rural to urban areas, caused by intensive dry conditions, has significantly increased land pressure - especially around large cities - and accelerated a poorly controlled urbanisation and agricultural development; both undermining the environmental value of these coastal ecosystems. These phenomena of population growth, urbanisation and climate change produce annual coastal erosion of about 1.33 m per year and the consequent neglect of filao (casuarinas equisetifolia family).ECOPAS intends to strengthen the contribution of CSOs to governance and development processes as partners in the promotion of social development. Internal dynamics in several associations are strongly oriented towards participation around the environment protection.
